Approx. 1.5 hours from NICONICO Rent a Car Kagoshima Airport Location
Everybody knows that Japan is famous for its thousands and thousands of hot springs, but not everybody knows about Kagoshima steam sand bathing. Under some beaches of Kagoshima, hot springs create heat and steam that rise up through the sands. By visiting some of the hotels near these beaches you can enjoy these unique steam baths. Even without staying the night, you can pay to borrow a yukata and head out to the beach where several holes are dug. When you are called over, you will lay in one of these holes with your head wrapped in a towel (to protect your head from the warm sand) and a staff member will then bury you with sand. A lot of locals sand bathe because of several health benefits (Increased blood circulation, excretion of toxins, stress reduction). Many women like to bathe as a part of their beauty treatment as well for clearing their skin. Whether you're going for health or relaxation, we highly recommend this unique experience!
